Nimba County, Liberia – The mysterious death of 18-year-old Blessing Thomas, a pregnant teenager who died on July 30, 2025, has triggered grief, outrage, and growing calls for justice across Nimba County.

According to the victim’s relatives, Blessing’s death was not a mere accident but the result of negligence and abuse of authority. The family alleges that Police Commander Eric Musah, assigned in Tappita, directly contributed to the tragedy. They claim that while escorting Blessing to testify in a rape case, Commander Musah forced her onto an already overloaded motorbike.

The motorbike, which carried Blessing, the commander, and two others—including the alleged rape suspect from Tiah Town, Gbi and Doru Administrative District—crashed on a bridge between Tappita and Saclepea. The accident killed all four occupants instantly, including the teenage mother-to-be.

Family members argue that Blessing’s death was preventable had due process, safety measures, and consideration for her pregnancy been observed. They describe the incident as a “gross violation of human rights” and a painful reminder of the dangers posed when those in authority act recklessly.

In pursuit of justice, the Thomas family has appealed to prominent human rights lawyer Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe to represent them. They believe his legal expertise and long-standing advocacy for justice would give their case a strong voice and ensure accountability.

“The circumstances surrounding Blessing’s death cannot go unchallenged,” the family emphasized, adding that their daughter’s life was cut short due to negligence and systemic failures.

Meanwhile, the public eagerly awaits a response from Cllr. Gongloe’s office as pressure mounts for a thorough investigation and accountability. For many, Blessing’s death symbolizes a broader struggle against injustice, negligence, and abuse of authority in Liberia.
