This week, the Governments of the United States and Liberia signed a landmark five-year Health Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) valued at $176 million USD, marking a renewed commitment to strengthen Liberia’s health sector.

Under the new agreement, the United States will provide up to $125 million in health assistance, while the Government of Liberia will contribute nearly $51 million as part of its increased investment and ownership of the national health system.

The partnership aims to expand support for HIV/AIDS services, malaria control efforts, and maternal and child health programs across the country. It also prioritizes the strengthening of frontline health workers, laboratories, medical supply chains, and national health data systems to enhance effective service delivery.

The MOU builds on Liberia’s significant progress in recent years, including major strides toward achieving the global 95-95-95 HIV goals, a 30% reduction in malaria incidence, and improved national outbreak preparedness and response capabilities.

This renewed cooperation underscores the shared commitment of both nations to advancing public health, saving lives, and building a stronger, more resilient healthcare system for all Liberians.
