Nimba County is set to undergo a significant administrative transformation with the approval of nine new townships by the House of Representatives. This development marks a notable step towards decentralizing governance and promoting local development within the county.

The newly established townships include Lugbehyee, Dingamon, Vayenglay, Mehnla, Duo-Boe, Dinplaye, Sokopa, Neigbei, and Zualay. These proposals originated from Senator Nya Twayen Jr., reflecting his commitment to enhancing local representation and service delivery in Nimba. After thorough examination and deliberation, the bills received unanimous support from the Joint Committee on Internal Affairs and Judiciary, chaired by Representative Nathaniel Bahway. The committee emphasized that careful due diligence was conducted to ensure these initiatives align with the county’s developmental needs.

The legislative process began with the bills’ initial reading on May 15, and they have now secured full legislative approval. The next step involves President Boakai’s anticipated signature, which will formalize the creation of these townships. Once signed into law, the bills will be promulgated and printed as official handbills, making the new administrative units officially recognized.

This move is expected to bring government closer to the people, foster local development, and improve administrative efficiency in Nimba County. The establishment of these townships demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing the unique needs of Nimba’s diverse communities and ensuring more inclusive governance at the local level.
