As part of his high-level mission to Liberia, the Director General of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), Mr. Bemanya Twebaze, held a significant meeting with the Office of the President of the Republic of Liberia.

Representing His Excellency President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., were the Acting Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Hon. Samuel A. Stevquoah, and the Director-General of the Cabinet, Hon. Nathaniel T. Kwabo.

The Liberian delegation was led by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Magdalene E. Dagoseh, alongside the Director General of the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO), Hon. Garmai Koboi.

The meeting focused on strengthening Liberia’s national intellectual property (IP) ecosystem, with particular emphasis on the country’s ratification of the Arusha Protocol for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants and the Kampala Protocol on Voluntary Registration of Copyright and Related Rights.

The representatives of the President reaffirmed Liberia’s strong commitment to signing and ratifying these ARIPO Protocols, reflecting President Boakai’s dedication to advancing innovation, intellectual property protection, and agricultural transformation, key priorities under the Government’s ARREST Agenda.

These initiatives align with Pillar 1 (Economic Transformation), which emphasizes food security, agro-industrial growth, and value addition through innovation, as well as Program 7 (Innovation and Technology), aimed at developing a robust, inclusive, and future-ready IP system for Liberia.

In response, Mr. Twebaze reaffirmed ARIPO’s continued partnership with Liberia, pledging enhanced technical assistance, institutional strengthening, and capacity-building support to help the nation realize its strategic development objectives and foster a vibrant, innovation-driven intellectual property environment that fuels sustainable growth and competitiveness.
