Gbanquoi, Nimba County – September 2, 2025: Authorities in Nimba County have arrested and charged a 23-year-old man, Otis Yeabo, for the alleged rape of an 8-month-old baby girl in Gbanquoi Town, District #7. The case, now before the Saclepea Magisterial Court, has shocked the nation and drawn urgent calls for stronger child protection measures.

According to reports, the alleged incident occurred on August 25, 2025, during celebrations for the birth of twins and the circumcision of the male child. Witnesses said Yeabo first attempted to harm the children’s mother as she slept, but her cries forced him to flee. He then entered the room where the twins were resting and was discovered naked after stepping on one of the boys, prompting neighbors to turn on the light.

The following morning, the children’s mother noticed her 8-month-old daughter bleeding, sparking suspicions of sexual assault. The matter was immediately reported, and officers from the Women and Children Protection Section (WACPS) arrested Yeabo. He has since been transferred to the court for prosecution and remains in custody.

The incident has generated widespread outrage within Gbanquoi and across Liberia. Community members and child rights advocates have condemned the act, describing it as one of the most disturbing cases of violence against children in recent memory. Many have called for swift justice and urged the government to strengthen laws and support systems that protect minors.

Local authorities have assured the public that the case will be pursued with urgency and that justice will be delivered. The arrest has also reignited conversations about the need for parents, communities, and law enforcement to work together in safeguarding children from abuse.
