Monrovia, July 18,2025 — In a significant ruling today, Criminal Court ‘C’ Judge Joe Barcko sentenced Peach Bility, the son of prominent legislator Rep. Musa Bility, to four years in prison for charges related to drug possession and illegal firearms. The court’s decision comes amidst a case that drew considerable public attention due to the defendant’s familial connections.

According to court records and sources from OK FM, Bility was initially facing charges that could have resulted in a sentence ranging from 10 to 20 years, as per Liberian laws on drug offenses and illegal possession of firearms. However, the court took into account Bility’s voluntary confession and his plea for mercy during the proceedings, which influenced the sentencing decision.

During the hearing, Judge Joe Barcko emphasized the importance of justice while acknowledging the defendant’s remorse and cooperation. "While the law prescribes stringent penalties for such crimes, the court recognizes the defendant's voluntary admission and remorse, which warrants a reduced sentence," he stated.

The incident came to light earlier this year when authorities seized drugs and firearms during a raid. Bility was detained and charged accordingly. His lawyer argued that his client had shown genuine remorse and was committed to rehabilitation, which the court considered as mitigating factors.

Legal experts suggest that this case underscores the ongoing efforts by Liberian authorities to combat drug-related crimes and illegal firearm possession, regardless of an individual’s social or political standing. The judiciary’s decision to impose a lesser sentence reflects a balance between upholding the law and considering circumstances that might warrant leniency.

Rep. Musa Bility has not publicly commented on the case. As the son of a prominent politician, Bility’s sentencing has sparked discussions about accountability and justice in Liberia.

Bility is expected to serve his four-year sentence at a government detention facility. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adherence to the law and the potential consequences of criminal activities, irrespective of one’s background.
