The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has unveiled a major financial boost for its top-tier competitions, announcing significant increases in prize money and subventions ahead of the 2025/26 league season.

During an Executive Committee meeting chaired by LFA President Mustapha I. Raji on Friday, August 8, at the association’s headquarters, members unanimously approved measures aimed at enhancing competition, promoting gender equality, and strengthening the national football brand.

The LFA First Division champions will now receive US$30,000, a 50% increase from the previous US$20,000. The Women’s Upper Division champions will enjoy a 25% prize money increase, raising their payout from US$20,000 to US$25,000.

In addition, subventions to Women’s Upper Division clubs will rise by US$1,500, bringing the total annual allocation to US$7,500 per club—a move made possible through the CAF Impact Fund. This increase aims to further support the growth and professionalization of women’s football across Liberia.

The LFA also announced that the FA Cup prize money for both men’s and women’s categories will be synchronized at US$10,000 per champion, replacing the previous disparity where men’s winners received L$1.5 million and women’s winners received L$1 million.

    Historical Rise in Prize Money

Over the years, LFA prize money has steadily grown. In the 2018/19 season, First Division champions earned L$1.5 million (US$7,895), compared to the 2020/21 season’s US$8,420 and the 2021/22 season’s US$20,000. Women’s champions, who earned just US$2,890 in 2018/19, will now see their rewards jump to US$25,000 in 2025/26.

    Other Executive Decisions

The committee also approved an expansion of the Men’s First Division from 14 to 16 teams, effective from the 2026/27 season. Meanwhile, the Beach Soccer League will be limited to 10 participating teams for the 2025/26 campaign.

A special committee was formed to design a structured framework for the LFA League Board, comprising:

    • Sylvanus Morris — Chairman (Global Pharma)

    • Casandra Hampton — Co-Chair (Mighty Barrolle)

    • Chris Weah — Member (Stages Queens)

    • Kla M.B. Wilson — Member

    • Edwin Baysah — Member

    • Pawala Janyan — Exco Official

President Raji emphasized that these changes reflect the LFA’s dedication to raising competitive standards, promoting inclusivity, and investing in the long-term growth of Liberian football.

With these increases, the LFA hopes to inspire clubs, players, and fans as the nation gears up for an exciting 2025/26 season.
