THE UNREAD LETTERS TO UNCLE JOE

It’s been nine long months since Hipco legend JB poured his heart out in “Letter to Uncle Joe  1 & 2,” brutally honest tracks  that called out the system, reminded the President of his promises, and questioned the slow pace of “real change.”

But guess what? Uncle Joe never replied.

The letter sits wide open on the internet, yet unread in the Executive Mansion.

JB wasn’t shouting for clout, he was speaking for a generation tired of recycled speeches and unfulfilled dreams. He expected his “Uncle Joe” to listen. After all, he’s not just another rapper; he’s friends with the President’s own son, Tantan Boakai.

That friendship, many thought, would give JB’s message a shortcut to the big man’s ears. But nine months later, it seems Tantan himself has ghosted the track, ignoring both the beat and the message. Loyalty to power over loyalty to truth? That’s the big question.

JB’s Letter to Uncle Joe 1& 2 tackled tough national issues ,good governance, the rule of law, corruption, and the haunting gap between promise and performance. It was bold, direct, and deeply patriotic. But in a country where speaking truth to power can cost you everything, JB’s honesty may have become too uncomfortable for the establishment to handle.

Liberia’s creative voices are often celebrated only when they sing praises ,not when they hold up a mirror. Yet JB’s “letter” was never an insult; it was a reminder. But the silence from the top tells a louder story ,that even when the truth is sung in rhythm and rhyme, those in power still plug their ears.

    The question now is:

Will Uncle Joe ever read the letter?

Or will it become another forgotten verse in the soundtrack of Liberia’s endless political disappointment?

Because one thing is clear ,JB spoke the minds of many. And until the message is acknowledged, the beat of frustration will keep playing across Liberia’s streets.
