The Government of Liberia conducted an official inspection on Saturday of the proposed site for the long-awaited Presidential Convention Center Project in Bong County. The initiative is part of the administration’s broader agenda to decentralize national activities and development programs across the country.

The high-level inspection team was led by Mr. Galakpai Kuatima, Director-General of the General Services Agency (GSA). Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Kuatima emphasized that the inspection fulfills President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s commitment to the people of Bong County and Liberia at large. He explained that the project aims to ensure that national programs and infrastructural development are not concentrated solely in Monrovia but equitably spread across the regions. “The President remains committed to decentralization. This convention center, once completed, will be a landmark facility not just for Bong County but for the entire country,” he noted.

The construction of the Country First Convention Center is expected to commence between now and December 2025. The facility will include a modern guest house, multi-purpose halls, and other amenities designed to host national and international events.

On behalf of the county, Superintendent Hawa Loleyah Norris welcomed the government and pledged full cooperation from local leadership. “This center is not only for Bong County but for Liberia. We are grateful, and we assure the government of our collaboration throughout the process,” she stated.

Other government officials present included Deputy Finance Minister for Administration Bill McGill Jones, and representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Liberia Land Authority, and Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs.

Residents and local observers have hailed the project as a long-overdue investment that could enhance Bong County’s image and boost economic activities through tourism, conferences, and official programs. The Presidential Convention Center is expected to stand as a symbol of inclusiveness and the government’s commitment to decentralization.
