Gbarnga, Bong County – A wave of grief has swept through Gbarnga following the tragic death of a young man linked to the use of the notorious synthetic drug commonly known as “Android Spark and Die.”

The deceased, identified as Hanson Flomo, believed to be in his early 20s, had been battling drug addiction since 2020. Despite repeated interventions from family and friends, his dependency on harmful substances only deepened. His father, Mr. Harris Flomo, expressed heartbreak over the loss, describing it as a painful reminder of the growing drug crisis consuming Liberia’s youth.

Although health authorities are yet to release an official medical report, community members believe Hanson’s death is tied to the “Android Spark and Die” drug, which has in recent months gained notoriety for its devastating effects. Locals say the substance is cheap, easily accessible, and increasingly popular among young people, many of whom underestimate its deadly consequences.

The incident has reignited urgent calls from community leaders, parents, and concerned residentsfor the government and security agencies to intensify crackdowns on the circulation of synthetic drugs across Bong County. They warn that without decisive action, the county risks losing an entire generation to substance abuse.

Hanson Flomo will be laid to rest today, Sunday, September 14, 2025, as Gbarnga mourns another life cut short by addiction
