Mayor of Gbarnga Expresses Disappointment Over Low Allotment to City Cooperation

The Mayor of Gbarnga, Mr. Gallah Varpliah, has voiced deep disappointment over what he described as the “low allotment” of funds to the Gbarnga City Cooperation, a situation he says is undermining the smooth operation of the institution.

Speaking to journalists recently, Mayor Varpliah revealed that during the first County Sitting, the County Council, under the leadership of Mr. Aaron Sackie Fenlah, allotted only $5,000 to the Cooperation. He said a detailed report of the usage of the fund was submitted as required, but since then, no further allotments have been made.

The Mayor lamented that the lack of essential resources—including grass cutters, tractors, funds to pay sanitation workers, and an operational vehicle—continues to cripple the institution’s ability to deliver effective services. He further accused the County Council of failing to provide accountability to the people of Bong County regarding funds allotted for development purposes.

Mr. Varpliah also expressed dissatisfaction over the county leadership’s decision to exclude the Mayor’s office from consultations during the recent rehabilitation of roads within Gbarnga. According to him, such actions undermine collaboration and weaken efforts aimed at the city’s proper development.

Despite the challenges, Mayor Varpliah extended appreciation to residents of Gbarnga for their cooperation and support. He emphasized that with transparency, consultation, and increased financial backing, the City Cooperation can perform better for the citizens.

In response, County Council Chair Mr. Aaron Sackie Fenlah dismissed the Mayor’s assertions, describing them as politically motivated.
