The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) branch office in Gbarnga, Bong County, narrowly escaped a break-in attempt during the early hours of Wednesday morning when unknown individuals allegedly tried to gain unlawful entry into the facility.

According to Mr. Aloysious J. Y. Bull, Junior Tax Collector at the branch, the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. when the suspects attempted to breach the building by removing a section of zinc from the roof. He explained that the move appeared to be part of a plan to gain access to the interior without being detected by conventional entry points.

Fortunately, the effort was foiled, and the suspects fled the scene without entering the building or making away with any property. Mr. Bull assured the public that the LRA remains vigilant, emphasizing that its facilities are equipped with robust security measures. “The security system at the Gbarnga branch remains on high alert. We want to caution would-be perpetrators that our facilities are well guarded and any further attempts will not be tolerated,” he warned.

Local authorities have since launched an investigation into the matter, though no arrests have yet been made. Law enforcement officers are urging residents to cooperate with the probe by reporting any suspicious activities or individuals linked to the incident.

Meanwhile, community members in Gbarnga have expressed concern over the safety of public institutions in the city. Several residents called for additional protective measures, including reinforced security personnel and surveillance systems, to discourage future burglary attempts.

The foiled break-in comes at a time when the LRA is intensifying efforts to expand its services across Liberia, underscoring the importance of safeguarding critical government institutions from criminal activity.
